Check out the fun wedding video slideshow we put together from Laura and Kyle’s wedding last February. We will be sharing the highlights of last year’s weddings over the next few weeks.

Here are a few more images taken from Jeff and Courtney’s reception slideshow of their wedding day.

We love all weddings, but Winter weddings are especially important to us. Just a little over 20 years ago on one of the coldest days I can every remember, ElizaBeth and I were married at West Center Baptist Church in Madison. The high was 16 below zero. No wedding day will ever be that cold.
Jeff and Courtney were married in Colman last Friday and believe me it was more than just a little chilly out. The wind was brisk and everything was bathed in white, but it was still a great day for a wedding. Here is a sneak peak of a few of their wedding images taken from the reception slideshow of their wedding day.

We made up a video slideshow for Brian and Amanda from their January wedding in Nunda, SD last Spring, but for whatever reason it never reached the blog. Check it out below.

ElizaBeth and I have been photographing weddings since 1995. We’ve seen lots of changes during those years, but some things remain the same.

In the days of film, the quality of the final product didn’t always rely on the photographer’s talent or equipment – the prints could come out poorly due to the skill (or lack thereof) of the lab tech. We always used the expensive, refridgerated professional film. We used a professional lab to develop the prints. The pro lab corrected for color and density. It was expensive, but well worth it.
Now we have entered the digital age. When we switched over to digital capture in 2002, DSLR’s were VERY expensive. It took $7000 to purchase our first Kodak 760. In those days, Kodak was the king of digital cameras. They took the pro level film cameras from Canon and Nikon and adapted them to digital capture by inserting a chip where the film used to be. We had to learn how to do all of the things the lab used to do for us.
Our conversion to digital capture took about one day. We took delivery of our Kodak 760 on a Friday and used it for senior pictures on Saturday. A week later we used it on our first wedding. The first wedding was very interesting: we started out to using film as a backup. That lasted for one one roll. We put the film camera away and never looked back. We learned to expose by the numbers and manage our own color.
We developed a work flow that let us check right away on a laptop that everything was correct and that we had no problems. We downloaded cards through the day and then reviewed the images. This work flow was the basis of what we do today and lead us to doing wedding reception slideshows a year later.

We love getting thank you’s in the mail. Amber and Isaac’s wedding was right before Thanksgiving on a very brisk November day at the Grace Lutheran Church in Nunda SD.

We love the “First Moments” pictures. It gives the bride and groom to share an emotional time together without the distraction of a church full of people. Amber and Isaac did have a small audience as she came down the aisle of the sanctuary at Grace Lutheran Church in Nunda last Saturday.
Here are a few images taken from their reception slideshow.

Here’s yesterday’s final image from Amber and Isaac’s wedding reception slideshow.

Here’s Jordan and Lauren’s Signature Mat. Jordan was another one of our seniors from a few years back. The signature mat is our gift to couple that contract with Black Studios for their wedding photography.

Here’s a few images from Matt and Beth’s engagement session. It seems just like yesterday that we did Beth’s senior pictures. Time does fly by faster than we would like.

It is the season for engagement pictures. Here is Hailey and Brandon’s signature mat image.

Here’s another fun signature mat. Matt and Beth had a little company on their engagement session which made things even more special.
The signature mat is a gift to every couple that contracts their wedding with Black Studios.

A few more images from Sean and Scout’s engagement session…

A signature mat is just our gift to the couple as part of their wedding package. Not every couple chooses to have all of the guest sign their picture. Some just have the bridal party sign. Others like the picture as is and put it on display at their reception, framed and safely behind glass.

The wedding is next month and the details are all coming together. Less than one month to go…
We miss Amber at the studio. It’s just not the same around here with her quick wit and flair for organization. Isaac used to stop all the time to see his future bride. We look forward to a wedding in Nunda. Guess who gets to do the wedding photography?!?!
Here’s Isaac and Amber’s guestbook proof.

Erin and Derek’s wedding at Peace Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls was a memorable one. All sorts of little things went wrong but we still had more than enough time for everything. The reception slideshow usually comes down to the wire. On Saturday, we were invited to join in the meal at Chef Dominique’s at Shriver’s Square nd we had the time to enjoy the wonderful food. We had great luck at Falls Park: everyone moved out of the way automatically so that we could have the water in the background without any people.
Here are a few images taken from the slideshow.
A few more images from Jerid and Jessica’s wedding reception slideshow.

Here’s another Art Poster. Derek’s senior portrait session was on one of the hotter and humid days in August. We got out his four wheeler at the end and had some fun with a few wheelies and a large mud puddle.
Whenever Isaac used to come see Amber at the studio, you would see her face light up. Amber just has to think about Isaac and she gets a smile on her face. That’s love if I’ve ever seen it.
We did a few pictures of Amber and Isaac long before he proposed at Lake Herman State Park. Those were cool, but this time it was for real – engagement pictures. We started at their future home. The mosquitoes were ravenous and feasted on photographer as their main course. Before going inside the studio in Rutland, we had some fun outside. In town the bugs were not as bad.
They make a cute couple. What do you think?
One from Jerid and Jessica’s wedding reception slideshow from yesterday’s wedding at Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Watertown SD. More to come later…
We were in Sioux Falls for Gretta and Dan’s wedding at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church next to the Augustana campus where Gretta is the head softball coach. It was in the high 90′s but that didn’t slow down Dan and Gretta from enjoying the day. Here a just a few images from their reception slideshow.
Eric and Heather’s getaway transportation was a fire truck. How cool is that! We went just over the interstate to Flandreau to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. We had warm temps, a slight breeze and partly cloudy skies. Here are a few images taken from Eric and Heather’s wedding reception slideshow. Enjoy.
TyLynn and Patrick were married Saturday at St Michael’s Catholic Church in Sioux Falls. We started in the morning with pictures because of the 1:30 ceremony time. TyLynn loved taking pictures. After leaving St. Michael’s, we headed to Falls Park where we found a break in the yellow tape surrounding the water. Recent problems with the Sioux Falls sanitary sewer had caused the Big Sioux River to be off limits. After Falls Park, we went up to Tuthill Park and the formal gardens and gazebo. Running out of any more time for pictures, we joined the guests at the Ivy Room by the Century 21 theatres. DJ Jer again provided the music for the slideshow of the wedding day. Here are a few images taken from the slideshow.
We love doing local weddings where we know the couple. Jill and Tyler were married Friday in St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Madison. St. Thomas has a beautiful sanctuary and Father Bob is cool to work with. After the ceremony we went over to Memorial Park for a few pictures of the wedding party and the real limo. Jeremy, owner of DJ Jer, was at the Dakota Prairie Playhouse for the reception. Jeremy is one of our favorite DJ’s to work with. Here are a few images taken from their wedding reception slideshow.
Kay was an exceptional bride…think really happy…on steriods. She was literally floating on joy for her First Moments with Derek. Here are a few of their wedding reception slideshow.
