Aliya: Madison South Dakota Children’s Photography

We just had our adventure for the day: Aliya’s mom came out to pick up pictures this afternoon. Julie called letting me know she had a flat tire. I hopped in the car secure in my expert ability to change a tire (lots of experience). We couldn’t find the jack or other tools. Roger Johnson stopped by to help. Kelly Jung came to the rescue from his shop half a mille down the road with a floor jack and a spinner wrench. We had Julie back on the road in no time.

A big thanks to Kelly for helping out.

We love it when Aliya comes to the studio. Not only is she cute, she is unbelievably smart and very polite.

Aliya had two special prints: a 4×10 desk panel and her Birthday Club magnet.

Allen Girls Fun Dress Up – Madison South Dakota Children’s Photography

As Mom and Dad were picking out Ainsley’s 4 yr Birthday pictures, the girls decided to play dress up with some of our fun accessories.

Teenagers are geting younger and younger – Dillon at the ORR vs Duebrook Basketball game

Dillon is a favorite subject of ours. He is the youngest of the Renaas family, but that doesn’t slow him down at all. His favorite place to be last night was hanging out with Dad watching the game in Rutland. He saw that I was taking his picture and did his very best to ignore me.

Elly and her brothers – Madison South Dakota Family Pictures

Elly and her three brothers came for a session last Fall. Word has it that their parents LOVED the pictures. While I liked the color version, I think the sepia treatment works well on this image.

Foland Family Christmas card – Madison South Dakota Family Photography

Another fun Christmas card designed by ElizaBeth.

No More Hibernation — Bring out Your Cuties!

I think the cold has put us all in hibernation mode. It’s cold. It’s so much work to bundle up, to get the car started, to wander out on roads, not sure that they won’t be icy or blown over by the time you come home. Boy, can I relate! Here I am with Rachel a week ago on one of those zero degree days where I wasn’t brave enough to head to town but still needed a little exercise. This is usually a little mile section that we run the dog or the kids run for gym class. This day I couldn’t find the road on the whole mile. It was a good, challenging walk, but I was happy to see the snow plow come to open the back road up.

Having said that, No worries, we are so thankful to the snow plows that open up the paved road to Rutland every day, and also to great neighbors, Denny and the Carpers for keeping our alley and our parking area nice and clean so you can all come visit us. And, I’m going to plan on the cold weather finally breaking. Today, the weather crept up to 30 degrees. I was loving the feel of the sun on my face and being able to be out without hurrying to get out of the chill.

We had so much fun playing in the cold a couple weeks ago, with the Freeze Your Fanny 5k Run, that we decided to continue the fun and also the love we want to share with the Leah’s Kids organization. The group from Madison will be off to Guatemala in just a couple weeks, to help finish the house for the orphanage, but there is always continuing need for support at the orphanage. Mike and I have decided to find a new way to help them out. Of course, we want you to help out, too. So, here’s our new program.

We are announcing the Caring Cuties Contest. For the month of February, we are looking for cuties to come out and support the orphanage. $25 will enter your children into the contest, give you a 60 minute session, and a free 8×10. The entrance fee all goes to Leah’s Kids and the Casa Angelina orphanage. (Check out www.leahskids.com) Then March 1-15, we will post our entries online for our viewers to vote for the cutest kids. We plan to have three categories of winners: zero to four year old, five to 12 year old, and groups –A great chance to get all the grandkids together in one portrait. Call today to set up your appointment 1.605.586.4143. Have an adorable idea to make your session more creative? Make sure you give us your idea when you call so we can plan for something fun.

Jack’s 4 year Birthday Panel – Madison SD Children’s Photography

Here’s a fun 10×20 composite from Jack’s 4 yr Birthday Club session.

We mount all of our prints 11×14 and bigger and apply a texture spray so you don’t need glass when you put them in a frame. We do offer framing too at Black Studios. All you need is to put a nail in the wall.

Spier Family Pictures – Madison SD Family Photography

Take yourself back in time not that long ago when the ground was not white and the temperatures were not freezing. We photographed the Spier family on a beautiful Fall afternoon at their place in Madison.

Jack’s Birthday Club Magnet – Madison SD Children’s Photography

Mom has been bringing Jack to the studio since he was just a baby. Just like Claire and Nathan, Jack loves to hang out, play with all of the toys and raid the snack bucket while he’s here. Turning four years old is a pretty big deal. We think that Mom will love the magnet when we drop it off tomorrow for her.

Mackenzie’s one year pictures – Madison South Dakota Baby Photography

It sometimes seems like we are “Baby Central” with all of the little ones around. We offer the Baby Plan with a framed print and newborn, 3, 6, 9 and 12 month sessions as well the the Birthday Club that has a free session and a magnet. We take time for the small ones to get comfortable with us before we start taking any images. They seem to know the right place to go to find toys and after we are through, the snack bucket has to be visited.

Here’s some of Mackenzie’s one year pictures.

Birthday magnet…

Dillon’s Baptism Magnet

We don’t just do Birthday Club magnets. We did several magnets up for Dillon’s mom for his baptism at Camp Lakodia on Lake Herman just west of Madison SD.

Kayden’s Birthday Club Magnet – Madison SD Children’s Photography

Like all boys, Kayden is constantly on the move. How do we get them to sit still? ElizaBeth. She plays with the little ones until we get that smile that Mom and Grandma are looking for. Here is Kayden’s Birthday Club magnet.

Wyatt is growing up!

Melissa and Chad brought out Wyatt for his Birthday Club session. We’ve known this little guy since he was a newborn. No one will ever be able to fill Melissa’s shoes as our studio coordinator and we miss seeing Wyatt.

We have an invasion of frogs in the Rutland area. Wyatt was the happiest chasing frogs, holding frogs and talking to frogs. He picked them up and set them down. Frogs are cool.

Here is Wyatt’s Birthday Club magnet. Can you guess how old he is?

The joy of being one year old!

Happiness can be measured in many ways, but when you are just turning one year old, there is joy in running. Running to Mom makes us happy. Running away from Mom as she tries to tickle makes us giggle.

Birthday Club magnets – Abbey and Audrey

Here are a couple of birthday magnets from earlier this summer. Both girls have always been a joy to work with. They love to smile, especially after they get to play with the toys. All kids seem to know instinctively where the toys are.
