I had to go home in the middle of the Raider/Elkton-Lake Benton VB game last Friday night. I had a taken a few images and was just finding the rhythm again. Taking great volleyball pictures takes practice. It’s hard to get the ball at the point of contact without the arms being in the way of someone’s face. I handed the camera over to ElizaBeth and she took more images during the next couple of games. Sure enough, come Monday as I processed the images for submission to the Madison Daily Leader, I found the shot I liked the best was taken not by me, but my very talented wife ElizaBeth.

Jordan won a prom certificate at the Madison After Prom party which entitled him to an Adventure session and an Art Poster. We ended up making two different posters and right now he’s having a tough time deciding which one he should take home.

Branden Barefoot Waterskiing Art Poster – Chester SD senior pictures
We’ve been waiting for a while to show this image off.
Branden came to the studio for his senior picture session, but we couldn’t stop until we got what he really wanted: barefoot waterskiing pictures. Rachel and Dacey tagged along to Lake Brandt where we met up with Branden and a couple of his friends. You have to go fast in order to barefoot waterski. We made several passes taking pictures along the way as Branden showed off his skills. Check out that smile. You know he was havin’ fun.

Gretta and Dan – 08.21.10
We were in Sioux Falls for Gretta and Dan’s wedding at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church next to the Augustana campus where Gretta is the head softball coach. It was in the high 90’s but that didn’t slow down Dan and Gretta from enjoying the day. Here a just a few images from their reception slideshow.
No caffeine: Days two and three…
It’s quite a transition to make. I haven’t gone done to the Rambler Stop convenience store for morning coffee with the guys this week. That cuts down the social interaction. When I take a break from the computer, I can’t walk down to the store two or three times a day and pick up a pop and a candy bar. Now I get up, walk around, drink a glass of water and go back to the computer. We certainly have enough computer work to keep us busy. After while though, your eyes are burning and the fun of retouching loses its charm.
Wyatt is growing up!
Melissa and Chad brought out Wyatt for his Birthday Club session. We’ve known this little guy since he was a newborn. No one will ever be able to fill Melissa’s shoes as our studio coordinator and we miss seeing Wyatt.
We have an invasion of frogs in the Rutland area. Wyatt was the happiest chasing frogs, holding frogs and talking to frogs. He picked them up and set them down. Frogs are cool.

Michael’s Art Poster
Michael won a prom certificate this Spring. The Art Poster is just one of the cool things included in the prom certificate. Tonight Michael and his parents came for their sales session. We had the Art Poster on an easel waiting for them when they walked through the door. I think Howard is going to have a great year of football if Michael has anything to say about it.
Day One of No Caffeine
Each year I go through the struggle of weaning myself off soda pop and caffeine. I decided to rid myself of the corn fructose added calories and get my sleep schedule back on track by eliminating the Pepsi I so dearly enjoy.
I am so tired. The only thing keeping me awake is the splitting headache that will not go away.
I want a nap…a 16 hour long one. Unfortunately I have obligations and responsibilities: I have a lot of retouching to do before tomorrow morning. I picked a heck of a time to give up the go juice.
The joy of being one year old!
Happiness can be measured in many ways, but when you are just turning one year old, there is joy in running. Running to Mom makes us happy. Running away from Mom as she tries to tickle makes us giggle.

Here are a couple of birthday magnets from earlier this summer. Both girls have always been a joy to work with. They love to smile, especially after they get to play with the toys. All kids seem to know instinctively where the toys are.

Eric and Heather’s getaway transportation was a fire truck. How cool is that! We went just over the interstate to Flandreau to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Alica
Alica starts school Monday in Berlin. Rutland SD is a long way to come for senior pictures. Alica was here for a summer visit with her friends in Madison where she was a exchange student at Madison High School. Alica tells us that senior pictures are not as popular in Germany as they are in the United States.
We had a great time wandering around Rutland on Wednesday morning with Alica and wish her all the best as she completes her last year of school in Germany before college. Maybe we will see her again soon.

Email is working again and change in this week’s studio hours
We’ve been fighting this nasty email issue for more than a month. Michael’s sister Linda stopped with Anthony for a short visit on their way home last night. It only took her a few minutes to diagnose the problem and implement a remedy. Everything seems to be working fine so far.
The studio is on short hours for the week as we try to spend some quality time with the munchkins before they head off to school. We will be returning phone calls and emails as time allows as well as finishing up some retouching on a few orders. We will be back full force on Friday. Leave a voice mail and we will get back to you.

Patrick and TyLynn – 08.07.10
TyLynn and Patrick were married Saturday at St Michael’s Catholic Church in Sioux Falls. We started in the morning with pictures because of the 1:30 ceremony time. TyLynn loved taking pictures. After leaving St. Michael’s, we headed to Falls Park where we found a break in the yellow tape surrounding the water. Recent problems with the Sioux Falls sanitary sewer had caused the Big Sioux River to be off limits. After Falls Park, we went up to Tuthill Park and the formal gardens and gazebo. Running out of any more time for pictures, we joined the guests at the Ivy Room by the Century 21 theatres. DJ Jer again provided the music for the slideshow of the wedding day. Tyler and Jill – 08.06.10
We love doing local weddings where we know the couple. Jill and Tyler were married Friday in St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Madison. St. Thomas has a beautiful sanctuary and Father Bob is cool to work with. After the ceremony we went over to Memorial Park for a few pictures of the wedding party and the real limo. Jeremy, owner of DJ Jer, was at the Dakota Prairie Playhouse for the reception. Jeremy is one of our favorite DJ’s to work with. Here are a few images taken from their wedding reception slideshow.

Ben and Andrea – 07.24.2010
Ben and Andrea were married in Winfred SD. Now there isn’t much in Winfred. It’s only been in the news because of a recycling center being cleaned up by the county and the occasional fire at the honey plant. The church is very cool from the outside and thanks to air conditioning, cool on the inside too. We started in the church for Ben and Andrea’s first moments and then went outside. After the ceremony, Andrea wanted some fun outside pictures of the bridal party near a pasture in the Vermillion Hills south of Winfred. We are used to going down the road less traveled, but we knew this was a bit different when everyone stopped and hopped into pickups for the last stretch of road.

We traveled to Vermillion SD for Mike and Jessica’s wedding. We’ve known the Mathison family for a long time – even before photography – so this wedding was extra fun for us. After the ceremony, we headed to Yankton and took pictures along the river before going to the reception.

We had just finished up Derek’s senior session. He had gone through a huge water puddle down by the Rambler Stop. Derek was soaked. He asked ElizaBeth if she wanted a ride back to the studio. Without any hesitation she ran over and hopped on the back of the four-wheeler. Derek headed straight for the puddle. This is the result.

Kacey
We headed south last week to photograph Kacey’s senior session starting at Falls Park in Sioux Falls. We used off camera flash and long lenses to isolate Kasey in front of the falls. We explored some of the more rustic areas of the park that turned out to be some of Kacey’s favorites. We finished up the session at the studio. Here are a few of our favorites.
